This year we have decided to ride the Eurovelo 13 (Iron Curtain route), from the Grense Jacobselv, Norway (Barents Sea) to Rezovo, Bulgaria (Black Sea). We are going to take some detours off the route to experience other exciting things along the way, but we will mostley follow Eurovel 13 as much as possible.
This historic route follows the border that existed between the Communist East (Warsaw Pact countries in the Soviet bloc) and Capitalist West (NATO countries) during the Cold War (1947-1991). We will cycle through 20 countries, 14 UNESCO locations and the rout is approximately 10000 km long.
Along the way, we hope to get to know new people, learn more about their food and culture. Perhaps we are lucky to meet people who grow their own organic food, on a sustainable living and natural farming method. Who might want to teach something about it to us.
The first part of the trip our grandson William will ride with us. He will follow us from Norway and into Finland for a while. He has some experience in cycling and staying in tents with us. We cycled through Denmark in 2018, from Frederikshavn down to Legoland in Billund then to Copenhagen. We really look forward to having him with us for a few weeks.
