About Us

We are (Assar and Heidi) two very adventurous and inquisitive people by nature. By traveling around the world it gives us the opportunity to get to know new people, experience different cultures, taste all sorts of good dishes and not at least see all the amazing nature. Sometimes we are so lucky to be able to bring our grandson with us on our trips.

A little about why we go on bike rides

A few years back we were wondering what to do during the vecation? In the past, we drove around by car and explored the United States. We got a love for the nature and the people over there. Well we got tired of it and had to invent something new. We wanted to experience other countries, people, food and nature. But not by car this time. We did what we are best at. We sat down and discussed what, where and how.

Assar wanted to go backpacing and hike, which was not something Heidi wanted to do. Then there was bacpacking and take trains between places. But after a trip in Scotland with backpacking, it was no longer relevant. Back to the discussion. Well Heidi came up with a nice idea “why don’t we go bicycletouring?” After all, this was something we talked about doing for many years ago. And so it was off, to buy bicycles and equipment.

About the name Finallydowhill

Many people have asked us why we called our website for FinallyDownhill. It all started on our first bike ride Easter 2017, when we where going to test the equipment and really see how good shape we were in. The trip went to Glaskogen nature reserve in Sweden. The route we had chosen was a so called beginner route and should be very easy. But no, it turned out that our shape was not so good anyway. The route we had chosen went up and down, up and down. It ended with Heidi getting so tired that every time we came up on a hilltop and it finally went down, then “finally downhill” sounded from Heidi. And she smiled from ear to ear. And hurried down with a great speed. Well it was a memorable trip that is not easily forgotten.

For that reason, our site was named “finallydownhill”. After a hard uphill, there is often a nice downhill.
